ARRA & HITECH Act
In 2009, Congress passed the ARRA & HITECH Acts which incentivizes physicians to adopt an EHR/EMR system into their practice. Depending on who you ask, somewhere between 15 – 20% of all small physician practices have already moved forward and adopted this new technology. That means 80% or more doctors’ offices have yet to adopt this new, mandated change. Are you one of them?
If you are, there are some significant benefits to deploying an EHR/EMR in your office. Physicians who adopt and use a certified EHR/EMR can receive up to $63,750.00 from Medicaid over a six year period beginning in 2011. For Medicare the maximum incentive one can receive is $44,000.00 over a five year period also starting in 2011.
These government incentives help cover the costs of implementing a system that long term will:
- Improve care coordination
- Reduce healthcare disparities
- Reduce paperwork headaches
- Simplify and streamline patient management
- Reduce overhead operating expenses
